Meritor Tire Inflation System by PSI uses air from the existing trailer air systems, air from the tank is routed into a control box and then into each axle. The axles then carry the air into the rotary union at the spindle, that distributes the current amount of air into each tire, keeping trailer tires inflated to the level you might specify. The system monitors air pressure constantly and correct under inflation automatically. When equipped with the ThermAlert option, the system also aids in detection of abnormally high Wheel-end temperature, thereby helping to avoid heat related Wheel-end issues. Should a problem occur that causes a Wheel-end to overheat, a thermal fuse which acts as a replaceable fuse in the spindle plug melt. Air flows through the opening in the plug and out through the hubcap vet. When air flows through the system at an elevated rate, the flow switch actives, causing the indicator light to illuminate, and the sound of the air flowing through the hubcap will direct the operator to the problem Wheel-end.
